looks like the tensioner bolt is broken off inside the rear case??

I think the PO actually had the rear cover off and used a standard screw/bolt to tighten the tensioner and then put the rear cover back on. At least that's how it looks.

I think that it looks like the hole may have been widened? If so a rear cover would be needed to work with the proper bolt.

I believe you are correct, the hole does look bigger. If that is the case the stock bolt will not work as the rear case is now... What a bummer. Not only is the chain adjustment an engine out procedure now, using the proper bolt will need the rear case to be repaired... previous owners
