Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a 79 CX500 and I'm currently replacing the head gaskets. I'm a newbie and this is my first project bike. In my manual when I'm taking off the cylinder head it says to make sure that the engine is at TDC. I'm almost positive that I did not have it at TDC when I took off the right cylinder head. Is this going to become an issue? I'm not sure how to proceed. I believe I now have it at TDC but I'm not 100% sure. I'm just wondering if the timing is going to all out of wack when I put it all back together. Can someone please help me understand how to move forward or if I'm in trouble? Please?

Thank you,

Cole

Follow the procedure on reassembly though. Having the cylinders at TDC on the compression stroke when refitting the heads and torquing down means you won't be fighting the valve springs.

Thank you guys both for getting back to me. I greatly appreciate it. I'm going to grab some Permatex Copper Head Gasket spray on the way home.

Cheers,

Cole
