So I bought a GL650I, well, kinda a Gl650I, it's got the frame, motor, and quite a few other parts, only missing, well, a LOT of other parts... Here she is after priming, probably going to strip it again and powder coat after I come up with $75 for the powder coater at Harbor Freight...

So I now have to update... Bought a GL650I, well, kinda a Gl650I, it's got the frame, motor, and quite a few other parts, only missing, well, a LOT of other parts... Here she is after priming, probably going to strip it again and powder coat after I come up with $75 for the powder coater at Harbor Freight...

She needs a little work I think, and quite a few parts, but she'll go in the end... Always said I dream of building a bike someday, just didn't know it was going to be a factory produced bike I'd buy in pieces and put together lol

If you have anything to donate or sell for cheap let me know, good chance I'll need it, but it's a serious budget build if I wanna ride her this year... Biggest priorities are gauges and 2 up seat, don't have front or back seat yet...

Looks like you've got an entire summer project there.

Did not see the motor in any of those shots - and as mentioned looks like you have your work cut out for you - and you obviously like jigsaw puzzles
good start on the frame and pieces

I added the engine pic, accidentally missed it lol. Planning on keeping it original but naked... Not a big fan of full dressers, but love the GL tank and side covers, which I'm going to have to find also lol. Don't think the bike's ever going to be inspected, MI doesn't care, as long as you don't smoke so bad you get pulled over or something to that effect. Should be fun, think I'm going to start piecing it back together to find out what I'm missing then tear it back down, sand blast again, and powder coat when I have $75 to spend on a powder coater at Harbor Freight, planned on getting it done professionally until I found out I could do it...

Where are you going to find an oven large enough to bake on the powder coat powder?

Check with Crashburn, I he had some GL 650 parts, but I'm not sure what he has left.

That's where he got it from.

Only parts Crash has left are his riders lol, I could check the highway from Lansing to Grand Rapids for parts, but those that fell out aren't likely to be any good anyway, like the gauges, not sure what else was lost in transit...
