Are they basically the same motor? Cam chain tensioner, water pump seal, tranny set up, clutch, ignition? I think that the carbs are a bit different....anything else?

Same beast except maybe the front engine brackets.



The carbs are only different because of the amount of space to mount them with the frame.

Am I mistaken or is there a difference in the rear case between the GL and CX ? I thought I read that the CX engine mounts diffently......

The engine on the '82 CX Custom should be identical to that of the GL. Pre-'82 CXes are different.

The TAI bikes don't have provision for the top engine mount. The CDI bikes do.
