I can't seem to figure out what the problem is with my 1980 CX500. Just a few days ago it started acting up. It runs and idle's fine but if you get from 5-5000 rpm's it starts to sputter and it won't accelerate. I have to be real easy on the throttle so it doesn't do this. I took it to a Honda dealer and they said it could be carbs or possibly the cam chain. Has anyone ever had this problem? How do you fix it?

Chances are it's the high side of the stator.

Check Here

Looking around and searching the site will come up with numerous posts on the subject.

If it is the stator, if you replace the factory CDI ignition unit with the new style Ignitech CDI's, you eliminate the High side of the stator from the equation.
