Getting ready to Ultrasonic with Harbor Freight unit.

I found gas on the outside of the left carb ACV. What would cause this?

Also, I am hoping to NOT break the carbs while putting in the cleaner, any problems with that? One side at a time while still attached?

Also, Simple Green/PineSol not here. What about a 50/50 vinegar and water solution? Heated or no?

Generally running fine but have rich condition with some smelly oil. somewhat dark plugs...so a good clean is probably in order as a preventative.

Any other suggestions hints?

Thanks

I use pure white vinegar, but I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner. If you use vinegar, thoroughly rinse and dry all the steel pieces as soon as they are removed from the solution as otherwise they will flash rust extremely quickly. A wipe with APF50 or similar would be good too.

Did you hold the acv up to a bright light and look closely for pinholes?

I think a hole in the acv, or if it were not sealed correctly where it was seated would be how it could get gas on the outside of the acv.

Don't forget the ACVs can be bypassed with no ill effects. You leave the old unit in and just make a small rubber circle to cover where the small o-ring goes.I used a small leather punch to make one from an old inner tube in one of my CX.

ALLAN- Pulled the ACV again and it looks a brand new, no holes etc.

I did clean around the mating surfaces inside and out and will check the results in a few days Probably when I finally get to UltraSonic cleaning the carbs totally. Will report back then.

SHEP- Thanks for the reminder about closing the small hole. If all else fails I may resort to that for now.

Thanks again.....
