Hi all,
Posted a few things here and there on this forum but thought I'd take a sec to introduce myself. . . I'm a locksmith and moto junkie near Knoxville, TN, had an '80 CX500 several years ago that I enjoyed riding. Read about the Turbo bikes back then but having never seen one and read how radically different they are from their NA cousins I didn't get too excited about ever owning one/borrowing parts from it for my CX.
Anyhoo. . . I'm a Craigslist addict and spotted a CX500T here in Kingston recently with factory shop manual and parts bike, so I'm now the proud owner of 2 CX500T's! Did a lot of reading on here before buying to see what to expect from these (i see the stators are still a problem--fought that on my NA bike with the CDI ignition).
Unfortunately the runner has been painted (black--but it looks good) and is missing a few non-critical pieces that I probably won't bother trying to chase down, so I don't really have any delusions of restoring it to 100% original condition. . . I'll likely get it running properly and looking nice and just ride the wheels off it. I'm still thinking of cafe'ing it or removing the fairing and swapping in a set of NA bike gauges and headlamp (streetfighter look) but that'll involve a lot of re-plumbing for the turbo and likely a vastly simplified exhaust. Sacrilege, I know.
Once I do that I'll probably have plenty of leftover parts that I'll let go of, but I'd like to make sure I get my runner in top shape first. I do have an extra set of forks (in addition to the ones on the parts bike and runner) and three seats (one perfect on the runner I'm not selling, one needs recovering, two that have been recovered but not to original spec), so anyone needs those PM me and we'll work out the deets.
Anyway, wanted to say Hi, thanks for putting together such a great board!
