I took my first long ride this weekend from Atlanta to Athens and back, about 70 miles each way. Overall I'd say it was pretty good. Only had to jumpstart the bike twice. I kinda figured this was going to happen, so I was prepared. And I wasn't about to let some (hopefully not very serious) electrical problems stop me. The only real complaint I have is that the handlebar angle gets uncomfortable after a while. It would be nice to have my hands a little farther apart and not pulled back so much. Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations as to what handlebars have worked for you? I wouldn't have minded having some highway pegs either, but I've already got a pretty good idea what I'm going to do about that. Luggage-wise, I'm pretty limited to what I can carry in my backpack. Have any of you found good aftermarket saddlebag (or any other luggage) options? I don't need to carry a whole bunch of stuff with me, but it would be nice to be able to carry a little bit more and/or not have to take my backpack with me everywhere I go. Thanks.

Weekends are usually best for me too, although I don't have tons of free time. The only reason I got to ride out to Athens was because I had to go to a wedding and my wife left the day before. Perhaps we can put something together soon.

Yeah, my charging system isn't working properly, so unfortunately that's got to be the first thing I sink money into.

I'll keep looking around for handlebars. Seems everyone wants their bars lower and sportier, so I'm not sure if that will make my search harder or easier. haha. Think I might see if I can find myself a set of Custom bars. Like you said though, I should get at mine with a measuring tape first and get some better idea of what I'm looking for.

Crash bars are definitely what I'm looking at for highway pegs. Just haven't figured out what style I want yet.

What kind of saddlebags do you have? I like the idea of universal ones that don't require special mounting hardware, as nobody seems to sell aftermarket CX specific bags. Any idea what luggage racks will fit? Just going buy pictures, it looks like the Custom and Deluxe have different mounting points. Or maybe it varies from year to year. Or maybe I was totally mistaken to begin with. I sure would like to do away with the backpack. (At least for the most part).

I'm pretty centrally located to most of the metro area. Of course, this doesn't do me a whole lot of good, as I rarely leave my 'safety bubble'. haha. I hear there's a motorcycle junkyard out toward Conyers somewhere. Anyone else know anything about that?

Cool. Thanks for the info. I was thinking about maybe checking them out for some handlebars. I don't want anything too radically different so I don't have to worry about rerouting or changing the length of cables and hoses, but I figure there must be a ton of 7/8" bars that are close enough in size while being a more comfortable shape.
