This may have confused me for a second but I emailed the builder to get an answer.

Here's what I saw that causes my question? What function do the exterior fork springs serve.







The builder said the exterior springs replace the inner springs for British style. That's new to me. But I got to thinking. If you have some soggy sucker why not install some as helper springs. Yeah I know the best option would be to replace the inners plus you would have to have something that wouldn't wear on the seal like the fork brace is doing or a tapered surround cap. But that would have to have a seal inserted too so it doesn't wear on the tubes.

It's definitely different and I'm diggin it. However, if it was done as more of a compromise to avoid replacing the inners then that ain't cool.

It's for show, mostly. Some Brit front ends had exterior springs, but they changed about the time the featherbed frame was invented, i.e., a long time ago.

I kind of like the "show" but a spring with more turns &/or chromed might look a little cooler.



Nice looking bike too.

Additional coils would bind (bottom out) on the "bounce", not practical.

True, but not if you rigged something up that was non-functional. I'm unfamiliar with that fork setup anyway.

i love the look of the leading link front ends. i am sure they are not good for our street bikes and they are mainly used on side car rigs but i love the looks.
