I've never looked at a cx650 but this is kind of odd. The 500's have a pin at the front but his has what looks like a c clip.

You know the manual really doesn't help. On the page for removing and installing the engine it didn't say how to separate it.

Disengage the drive shaft from the universal joint assembly by adjusting the jack height and moving the engine forward.

Just measured it out and it's 3/4 inch.
