I have a 1982 GL 500i with the 32-spline gear (looks like a sun--located at the center of the differential/final drive) that has busted teeth; the matching side at the center of the Rear wheel (unless I have the position of those two reversed) is also stripped of splines. I have to replace that pair and I wonder if the piece that is bolted to the right-side center of the rear wheel is available (readily) at some parts supplier-- also I would have to get the gear for at the differential side.

I am not opposed to replacing the entire differential via ebay parts etc; I have not found a source for just the part of that set that bolts to the rear wheel center.

I am looking for a source for those parts, and I am wondering how much interchanging I could do between models and years.

Do the CX bikes have exactly compatible parts, how about with the goldwings, --years?

Thanks all, very much.

It's easier to exchange final drives than fix them. The CX final drive is identical except for the fact that it has a shock mount. But you can cut that off.

As Stitch said.

The parts inside the final drive unit are expensive and just that part that you want is NLA from Honda (I think).

The big bearing alone costs (at least in my country) like $ 100. Then there are seals too...

At least on this side of the pond final drives turn up frequently on ***y. A complete rear wheel, with driven flange in good condition is also easy to find at low price. My impression is - cheaper and more easy to find than a separate flange. There ought to be lots of them in most bone-yards.

With some luck you´ll find both a good wheel with flange and a complete final drive cheaper than the big bearing alone. Examine closely before you buy!
