I am not sure what is going on with your situation. I swapped an engine from a 799 deluxe into my 80 custom without any problems.

It just looks wrong and bolts aren't lining up. I have seen two piece hangers too, is that possible? I think onlt the GL has 2 piece hanger.

ARGGGG

Do you have the engine hanger pointed in the right direction? I think all cx500 hangers are the same. Maybe not the 82 but maybe.

Yea. I gave up for tonight though, gonna try again tomorrow. It is a CDI engine I know that (engine that joel got from you stitch) and the hanger is right off a 78, so it has to fit. I'll try again tomorrow and post back, hopefully it goes on. Pics if necessary.

Thanks

Well the bike was an 80 I think and I remember dropping the engine because it had the one broken mount on the lower left.

Sometimes engine mounts don't like going back on right but usually the two studs line up and I lightly tap it on the rest of the way till I can put the bolts in the top.

they are different. if you look them up they have different numbers and look different. i believe the difference is with the difference in neck lengths and being able to mount the coils.

i tried to buy a set of deluxe/standard rear engine hangers, but apparently the seller didn't realize there was a difference and set me a set for a custom. if you'd like to trade send me a pm.

I've only seen and been aware of, two types for the 500

the one piece CDI hanger and the later two piece TI hanger

for motors with a central rad hose

Having said that, I used a one piece ( CDI) on my TI motor

as I used my old ZAB rad and thermostat assembly.

Are Custom ones different?

( never had a crustom)

One difference in them is the screw holes that the trims attach to,,the screw holes in the plastic trim/grill for a 78 will not line up with the trim screw holes in the custom hanger.

I have put a 78 motor and hanger in a custom and vise-versa, but never tried changing the hangers on the motors.

Hell yes. It is close my friend. It is close.

I won't tell you how I got it running but i did get it running for about a minute with a toasted stator. This was before I got the ignitech. If I had the ignitech I would have probably kept it.

And if I remember right it had pretty good compression.

Yep. doubled up the length of the coil wires and adapted it from another bike. We stopped because we didn't want to burn up the starter. More reason I should get a second ignitech just for diagnostic testing.
