bike won't start, thought it was a dead battery but battery checks out. started researching and trouble shooting and i think it may be the starter solenoid. that main fuse may be giving me all the trouble, unfortunately i stuffed it in the very back of my oil bag / wire cover. bought a atc fuse assembly at work and am going to make the attempt at tearing it down then trying to put jeanie back in the f'in bottle. wish me luck

If it's the solenoid you should be able to jump the two terminals with a screwdriver to make it start.
I plan on doing that before i tear into this and put in my fuse holder.

If indeed it's the solenoid not allowing juice to get to the starter then could he not "pop clutch start" it going down a hill ?
only if i want to kill myself.

what in the world do you mean by kill your self?? all it takes is about 10mph and in 2 gear........hold the clutch in and get up to about 10mph and let the clutch out....make sure you have the choke pulled up that way you have throttle

the only hills i have in pushing distance are in the middle of the desert.

i appreciate it. the salvage yard in town probably has a few of these but i'm pretty sure its the main fuse.

that would be fun. i got the new fuse holder and wiring. i'll try bypassing the blown fuse tonight and see what happens. ultimately what i would love to have is a electric/kick start for the bike. if i have a bad starter then i'll investigate that.

i know there was a thread some were about a kick starter on our bikes and if i recall the only spot that would some what even come close to working would be the cam shaft on the front of the bike so i am not to sure how it would work though you would need one hell of a spring to much to think about right now.....

Imagine if they let the same guy that designed the gear shifter to design in a kick starter. :)

the fuse is fine. i just tested it with a test light. theres gotta be some disconnect between the solenoid and the starter. just for the sake of it does anyone have a picture of the exact location of the neutral safety switch. i want to trace that wire and i don't see it anywhere.

yeah i am really really embaressed. be prepared to laugh at me everyone. after spending an hour tracing down the wiring from the solenoid to the start switch i was ready to condemn the solenoid. i took the plug off and cleaned a little corrosion off the prongs, plugged it back in and then i was getting power thru the solenoid so i started tracing a broken wire. traced from the solenoid to the diode and had power. power thru the diode so i'm good there. checked the wire going to the neutral switch, no ground. i thought the neutral switch was bad. then i kicked the shifter down, it was in first. the whole time it didn't start was it was in first gear
i kicked it to neutral and bam. cranked right up
. my fault for not having a neutral light, but i just corrected that by adding a 12vdc led i had laying in the tool box. i should be able to get it running now. still not street worthy. for that i'de like to give a big fuck you to the good people at Apache motorcycles of Phoenix, not only did i order the part at the beginning of last week, as of today it still has not arrived. btw, they had this part IN STOCK ON THE SHELF. maybe i'll get it tomorrow, but probably not.
