i got my replacement cylinder head and my gasket should be here tomorrow. when i pulled the old head off there were these little pipes that got bent when i smacked the head. i looked them up on the microfiche and they are called dowel pins. i didn't get replacements when i got the head and they don't look like they come with the gasket. how necessary are they? it looks like they just hold the head in place during assembly. is that accurate? can i do without them just so i can get this freakin' thing put back together?

You'll need to source replacements as they accurately locate the head.



I wouldn't want to try getting by without them.

i agree with CXP,when the head bolts go through the head,there is a certain amount of slop,these dowels stop any sideways movement.

cant you take the bent ones to a machine shop,get them to bench them,i cant believe they are bent by much

Might be able to find new ones. An auto machine shop might be able to supply you.

I search via the part number and the dimensions.If the part number matches and the dimensions then I assume they are correct.They will have been used on many engines
