I went 137 miles

No, but I was sweating it for the last 10 miles. It was downhill out of Stevens Pass on US-2. Each right hand bend had me hoping for the gas station I knew was coming.

I swear I took a pic of the odometer, cuz I remember it saying 173. But the math doesn't make sense now... That would make 67mpg. The bike was loaded, as it was the first leg of 500 miles over the weekend. Could the extra 100 lbs on a long downhill have put me over 65mpg? I will have to do it again

Why? Wouldn't reserve take you to a gas station?

Possibly. But I was in a "next services a long ways away" zone, and didn't realize it until I looked at the odometer. Thankfully, I had just fixed my speedo gear, so knew to ease up on the throttle.

Although, had I NOT fixed the speedo, perhaps I would have been more conscious of my fuel situation before I went up the pass.

I don't know about the 650, but I finally found reserve on G-Loria, and it came at about 190 miles. I've yet to be able to get a clean read on mileage due to variations in trip fluctuations, but best I can tell, it's in the 45mpg mark average. Although most of my riding is basic commute with many traffic delays. According to Larry, my tank is 4.6 gallons.

Per the factory shop manual page 1-3

Fuel capacity 3.28 US gal

Fuel reserve capacity 0.58 US gal

Pretty much 3.3 gallons But like stated above the reserve is small. I hit reserve once in front of a gas station. Used up 3 gallons.

Once I managed 59mpg traveling rolling roads at 45-55mph. After that fuel mileage is out the window. I like to average between 45-50.

Here's the list out of Clymer:

CX500

80-81 Deluxe 4.5 US gal

80-82 Custom 2.9 US gal

All GL500 4.6 US gal

All CX650C 3.28 US gal

Any of the larger tanks fit on a 82 CX500C?

I asked because I thought they were 2.6 for some reason. I wasn't home yet when I posted, and didn't want to risk being on the side of the road.

From all of my research, the only larger tank that would fit is one that Larry makes. Inspired by Blindstitch's supertanker, I have been considering taking a plasma cutter to my extra tank. But taking breaks every 120 miles has been easier.
