My bike was doing the same thing after having it apart, and it seemed like it had plenty of gas, but I think the bike was actually right at the point of having to move the petcock to reserve. What I ended up doing was moving the petcock from 'reserve' to 'on' a couple times and in doing so I noticed some pretty big air bubbles. I filled the tank and it was fixed.
