I was wondering if all cx engines take a long time to warm up . Is it normal for them to hesitate until fully warmed up? This is an 81 custom with all standard original equipment, stock carbs and air filter, exhaust. thanks for comments, Dan

hiya dan, welcome, nice to see you have a good winter climate to ride.spend a few minutes to update your signiture and avitar, include your bikes details and where you live in the world.

i dont know what you call a long time, mine is fully responsive after 1 minute, and pretty good after 30 seconds.it may be your carbs need a good service

My motor seems to take a few minutes to get up to operating temp. I don't have hesitation during warm up. Are you using your choke? Maybe it's what Bandit says or since all engines are different you need some time to learn what you motor likes. happy riding!

As others have said a good well cleaned and correctly balanced set of carbs go a long way to improving overall starting and performance.

However all parts should be nominal including good battery,plugs/plug caps/coils/ground and battery connections. As I have electric fans fitted to my CX500s the engines warm up pretty fast.

One of my CX500s is virtually instant full performance from cold and the other around 30 seconds or the end of my street, which isn't far

Linny,it was really only the hesitance/response i was commenting on.the time it takes to get to normal operating temperature, probably depends as much as.....your ambient air temperature, how you initially ride and the efficiency of your cooling system.

i really dont care how long mine takes to get there,as long as the throttle responce is good[not hesitant]from the word go.

Certainly not like my 2-stroke dirt bikes that would start and go in seconds at nothing °F but these are internally oiled so I tend to let them warm up for a minute or so before I put any load on them - at least until they'll idle without the choke having to be out.
