I purchased these:

since they only have a single mounting bolt I attached them to the rear engine hanger brackets( one on each bracket). There is a hole already drilled out in the brackets in which they fill well. I added a lock washer so they wouldn't wiggle loose. I've put a little over 100 miles on with them so far and no issues.

Actually that blue wire is really green. That picture on ebay is not accurate. The other dark colored wire in the picture is black with a yellow stripe. That is the power wire and the one to plug in. The green/ground I just taped it to the black wire since it is not needed. Here is a pic of it mounted:

Good point. I kinda thought about that too, so I've been checking them to touch after each ride. So far so good, but that's not a definitive test. If those symptoms occur in the future I'll swap them out with a spare pair I bought a the same time. I think I payed $4 when I bought them a few months ago.
