No interest on my part, but if you're looking for one, you won't find this one by doing a search.

FleaBay Ad "CBX Turbo"

Check out the description, Honda is so safety conscious it makes me feel all fuzzy.

"Honda made these for about a year and a half and then recalled the remaining dealer stock because they were dangerous. This bike makes 18 psi of boost and when the turbo starts whistling all you can do is hang on. " Not quite true. You can hang on, and at the same time have a maniacal grin on your face.

"Took this to a local shop where things went awry." The reason you bring it to the shop in the first place is because something is awry.

It looks like a nice candidate for a fix-up and then daily driver fun, with many smiles per gallon- a great opportunity to pick up a 650TD at a nice price.

It sold for exactly $1,000. A bargain, I'd say, considering he had all the parts save for the key (easy to make, just look for the key number on the ignition switch or the helmet lock). Too bad it was outside with no seat or fairing on it for so long.

Thanks for the lead on the bike. I bought it to race in the production class at Bonneville. Since I am planning a complete rebuild, the $4000 I saved over most 650's will go to good use. Ed

The bike would run in the production, pushrod, supercharged 750 class. It has to appear stock from the outside, but the inside can be modified. With such small production numbers hardly anyone has modified these things for speed. With an outdated fuel injection system and an out of production engine, it will be interesting trying to improve on this thing. The computer will limit both boost and rpm, so that will be much of my challenge. Having to have virtually every speed part custom made will be another challenge. Oh well, this is a much easier sale to my wife than trying to build a 250 mph, $50,000+ Hayakawamaha. It is costing me a bundle as I had to buy her a new car to ease into this....

Any and all performance ideas will be greatly appreciated. I am going to try to pick Jim L's brain for ideas and try to locate the other guys who have run these at Bonneville too.

If you wanted to improve on the computer, a megasquirt could be adapted to the bike.

There are Four reasonable performance mods that you can do to these bikes.

Mill the heads (a little).

Smooth the the Exhaust ports.

Run a Boost valve.

Run a Blow Off Valve.

If you want to make a drag bike, you could run Nitrous, but you will fuck up your engine.

Anything else you try will be a futile attempt, a very expensive attempt, and the only thing you will accomplish in the end is to fuck up a perfectly good bike.

Glad it went to a good home, sounds like it's going to be an awesome build. Good luck with it, and keep the list posted on the progress.

And....BE Careful, you know Honda pulled the bike from the market because it was so fast, evidently this is one of the ones that got away, if it had been listed correctly Honda would have paid anything to get it back.......

I'm interested in what mods to the valves, guides, springs, rods and rockers can be done to keep them together when breathed on. Are you going to try and grind a cam fot this thing. I've been researching home brew EFI and seems it would be do-able.

Are the turbos in stock trim as much of an aero dynamic pig as a naked CX? I feel like I'm pushing an open cardboard box into a headwind sometimes

I'd be trying to figure out how to get a taller final gear for bonneville... At least the tallest profile rear tire I could find

I'm envious, it's a long time dream of mine to go there with an attempt. Good Luck! and please keep us updated on your effort.

J

Edit: I looked at Turbo Tims pictures... He's got an areo rig for sure
I don't know why he has not wrapped the thing all the way to the ground
I don't think that would qualify for a stock exterior

Every little areo thing helps at terminal velocity, narrow tire, narrow fork tubes, short pegs,,, anything to make it smoother or smaller from the winds perspective.

If that's Timothy D... as Turbo Tim. I'm impressed fo sure.

It's not as though these are a dime a dozen either; but to each his own. If I were him and insistent on this goal, i'd pull all the plastic work and mock up some fake plastic.

F*** no, I'm not Turbo Tim.

That man has fucked up as many 650 turbos as he has saved.

I admire his skill, but I detest what he represents.

He grenaded a 650T engine for this stupid nitrous drag bike project of his.

GRENADED IT.

Intentionally killing an engine for a bike that is this rare (by sheer stupidity of will), is inexcusable.

And it sounds as if the only thing on this bike that will need to be stock is the bodywork and wheels. Likely rework the computer; different turbo; injectors etc.

Id have a spare 650 engine/turbo already torn down that I'd trade towards the complete bike: Plus I'd thrown in a 500T fairing. They could be installed on a 650E or GL650 frame for a better go at it. But; to each his/her own.

$1000 wasn't a steal; but it was on the lower side of it's value and it could have been swept up by others for another $800 and still been a good buy. So turbo owner wannabe's were sleeping.

Has he made it out of the 11s yet? I've always wondered why he runs damn near stock times with all those mods.
