So my Silverwing only has 6500 or so miles, but has spent 20some years in a garage collecting goop. A good wash and polish got the fairing & luggage looking almost presentable, except around the badges and latches. Old wax, oil, and dirt were caked in all the little nooks and crannies.



I thought about q-tips and cleaners, but I have nowhere near the patience for that job.



Spray polish ( I used McGuire's, but Pledge would probably work ) and a scrub brush got all that crap out and left a fresh coat of wax. Quick, easy, and looks pretty good.

An old toothbrush can work wonders. I use them to clean out crevices and also to remove extra wax.

I have always loved 0000 steel wool on chrome/metal parts. It's amazing what a little elbow grease can do for these bikes.

Pinesol! I just cleaned a set of cb900f carbs with pinesol, omg!! I'll post pics as soon as they are complete. BTW, same keihin CV carbs as a CX.

Pinesol...Really? Did you do the insides or outsides of the carbs?

I used carb cleaner, PB blaster, microfiber towels, and a toothbrush. My bike is running SMOOTH now.

Check my post in this same section. I removed the float bowls and caps, floats, and jets. then submerged in a 1/3 pinesol 2/3 water solution for a few days. Honestly I am amazed at how well pinesol works. Check out my post (with pics).

I second the 0000 steel wool recommendation. A few pads of that, some rubbing compound (I used Turtle Wax), some decent music, and 1 or 2 ice cold drinks got the chromes front fender, front and back wheels, and heat shields on my '78 CX500 project looking close to new. Ok, there's still a few minor surface blemishes if you look up close, but if you're that close to my front fender, then you've got bigger issues...

That Pinesol recommendation is great - cheap and obviously effective from your pictures. I plan to try that in my ultrasonic. Plus that fresh, clean scent must really attract the ladies.

I have cleaned old rusted chrome with cola and ball up aluminum foil to use as a "scrubber" gets rid of all the rust.
