If you wanted to make sure there was no real damage done during that initial cranking, as in step 5, take the spark plugs out too, and with the kill switch set to off, crank the motor. Then you won't put undue stress on the starter or other internal components. That would just circulate the oil back into the works. You do need to make sure the step 2 was done first though, to make sure the engine will rotate freely.
