I just tested my stator on my 1981 500 Custom using the guide that Blindstitch had posted.

I will post the results so somebody smarter than me can tell if anything is wrong. The bike has the 0ver 5000 stumble, and now it's under 5000 too.

I cleaned the plug caps and took out the resistors and they ohmed out ok. I bought 2 coils from Ray Williams Motor Cycles in the UK, but before I put them on I'd like to know for sure they are bad. I'll probably replace them anyway because the originals are 30 years old, but I'd still like to know if these numbers tell the tale, or how I can check them.

These are cold numbers

1/5 = 115.4

2/5 = 95.9

3/5 = .217

4/5 = 115.8

6/5 = 97.0

7/5 = .217

8/9 = 74.5

5/9 = .312

Thanks!!!

8 and 9 are the usual problem ones and yours read just below

spec.

It suggests there may be a problem with the stator but

before commiting to a new stator or an Ignitech

I'd do like baugh55grfmj has done and repeat the tests hot and cold to

confirm it, as poor running could be due to various problems

I'm on the list for an Ignitech.

I'll do more tests next week.

Thanks
