I want to run a smaller lead battery and hide it under the bike. Can I get away with using a smaller lead battery with less CCA or should I buy a new regulator and a lithium battery?

Keep in mind lithium and lifepo4 batteries are NOT cca rated in the sameway as a lead acid..
Thats where the local supplier can help you..
most name brands will have an application chart..if it includes 1970s and 1980s CB750s it will b equivalent...(to a Cx/gl one)

Yes. I understand the lithium batteries are not CCA rated. I am wondering if a smaller battery with 500cca or a little less will start and run the bike. The factory size battery takes up too much space.

I'm not sure what bike you have, but should it be a GL, as is mine; you can run lithium without any other upgrades, for two reasons. First the GL already has the updated charging system and second, most all lithium batteries these days have built-in overcharge eliminators.
I'm successfully running a small Shorai, without a single problem.

Thank you Murray. I am going to buy a smaller AGM battery and give it a try.
