hello newbie wanting to rip into the carbs but have never done this before and just plain dont know what to expect. is this simple?

Yes and no. There's what you can see and what you cant. If you want to remove what you can see then that's easy. If you want to remove the rest it's a bit harder and requires an ultra sonic.

I just removed mine, and boy was it a pain in the ass. I have them out though and I'm about to clean them up. Here is the link I am going by. Hope it helps.

That's the basics. If you have a friend with an ultra sonic cleaner that would be the next best thing. If you have a need for one besides the carbs Harbor Freight sells a decent one for around $60.

it's easy and tough. one of those projects that if your first time, you'll find yourself taking 10 steps backwards many times during.

I suggest Larry's book and an ultra sonic cleaner. I just finished mine (though not finished) in about 5 days, originally thought it would be 1 or 2 days.

I also suggest taking many pictures and keeping your parts organized. Make it even easier for yourself, and buy a "complete" rebuild carb kit off ebay (with jets/o-rings/gaskets/etc)
