I tried to revise my listing to say I'd take money orders or personal checks but they wouldn't let me revise the listing to show that, got a big red warning flag "it looks as if you're offering to accept ..." and we can't allow that.



Bad enough you've got to pay the listing fees and the subsequent PayPal Fees but you used to be able to do that.

That is why I quit listing with them. Try Craig's list, it is still free.

I'd have to hit every one of the 500 or so Craigslists to publish that, I'll just stick with eBay as I've got these listed to where they show up all over the world. Guy on the thread wrote me from Thailand last night, only turned out to be $1 more to send a kit or two over there.



I simply will not send anything the Mexico, only country I've ever had trouble with aside from some delays going through Canadian Customs and Australia one time thinking I was sending part of a bomb on an oddball electronic device. Most people in Mexico know their postal system is (hate to say it) dishonest and I'm being very kind in the wording there thus many have PO boxes right across the border. Bet there's a good amount of money operating one of those if you're on this side of the border.



Free trade my a**, we let them come over here to work but if we want to move down there - well - look up the rules.

I've been a Merchant there for 12 years. I've watched as they made really bad decisions, bought Pay Pal, screwed it up even worse then added so many "Pay-to-Play" features the small sellers became invisible. Then the new fees and rate hikes.



I finally gave it up as a bad job. Closed my ebay store and stopped listing. I still buy occasionally so my account has been active for 12 years, I have hundreds of feedback all 100% positive.



Last week I tried to list the GL in a "Freebie" Classified ad. It only shows up for a 250 mile radius. Well after I filled it all in and hit submit I got a giant red stop page.



"You must add PayPal as your Automatic payment service to list this ad."



For a free ad I need to set up a payment system? WTF?



I chat with help. "All new sellers are required to do this."



I say, "I'm not exactly new, I've been here 12 years and I already have PayPal Verified on my account."



No-Help, "All sellers must set PayPal as their Automatic Payment Service to list on ebay. That is our Policy."



Me, "So to list a "Free" ad I have to give you and Paypal permission to take money from my account whenever you want?"



Chat-Bot, "All sellers must set PayPal as their Automatic Payment Service to list on ebay. That is our Policy."



Me, "Buh Bye"



I'll never list on FeeBay again.

I've bought parts through ebay for 5 years or so now and for some reason have never been able to have my address verified with them. It's never made any real difference as it appears since you pay through paypal up front the sellers will still ship. But why is such a simple thing a problem for ebay?

They get a listing fee, a "sold" fee then a PayPal fee which looks like it equates to 20% overall.



It was not this way years ago.

I've paid by 'cheque, or money order' exactly twice - both times the product never arrived. I've paid with paypal over 150 times and have never had a problem. Personally, I won't have it any other way. Paypal takes quite a risk by their guarantee, and as a buyer, I just feel that much safer. So be it. 10-20% is a small cost of doing business - just price accordingly.

I have a gripe with ebay/paypal - it's when you transfer funds via paypal to pay for something - their exchange rate is undervaluing my dollars & costing me more than current rate....check it out when you do a transfer - any o/seas transaction is a blatant rip off.



so you get screwed every which way you turn when using ebay..



my last transaction cost me more than 3% of my dollar value - which in this instance cost me more than $50.00....so there is nothing wrong with gouging its customers as long as they get away with it...all the little nibbbles makes a big bite in my opinion.



unfortunately I put up with it - but it still sucks big time. If I had deeper pockets I would tell them to go forth and procreate.

I agree with you on the exchange rate issue. Canada vs US is a common problem. More recently, the Cdn $ is more than the US, but following the Paypal formula, it's still below by a couple points. The answer to that was to change your purchase onto your credit card using Paypal. It is then billed in the currency of the transaction, and your bank then handles the exchange - usually more favourable than ebay/paypal.

Had the same problem, cited exact exchange rates to them but all I got back was gibberish.
