Might need to stop every so often to check on how she's taking to it. Is she going to be able to wrap her hands around you AND that backrest? The more I keep thinking about "where's she going to put her hands", the more I think of losing the backrest and make her put her hands around you. That way there's no worry about side pressure on the milk crate, and you could have her push against you for back support.

Any way you decide to do it, I'm sure you will more and likely be trying several different arrangements.

My Daughter at Twelve would not have sat behind me.... Maybe at 11... but not at 12.

You may want to let her drive and make the rear seat bigger

Seriously: I would not do it knowing it is going to pizz off the x... One accident, and even if "no harm no foul"... she could make you out as an irresponsible parent and take away what I hope is most valuable. or at least give you a 50$ pain in the A##

I (although very tempted) would not do this kind of thing in the interest of keeping a good relationship with my child. I bit my tounge for 18 years, kept the Bit## happy... and it paid off in the longer run...

Maybe you could swap cars with someone who has something a little easier on the GAS?

Well after all that, after all this discussion I took it all off the bike. Will just move the sissy bar back to the back position when I get to her house so she can lean back on it and will put my sissy bar bag back on the bike for her stuff.

What bugged me was what you guys mentioned in that the back of that sissy bar being right in her face would not have been fun........as well the wife tried sitting on it as I have it in the pics and putting her legs up and over those slide bars was un-comfy.

Oh well was worth a shot.

I went for a ride without the sissy bar pushed up to my position and it wasn't all that bad so I'll survive w/out the sissy bar when she's with me so she can have it !!

Thanks for the opinions....they were all right !

Actually you're suppose to have a slight forward leaning angle for comfort. I'm still bothered by the milk crate.

As to the original question, I would say yes, Brilliant White Trash.

I should have saved it, can't find it now, but there was a great pic on the net of a full size Labrador sitting in a milk crate on the back of a bike.

That sure looks like a nice family outing.
It also looks like it could be a Yamaha YB100 (Bike of the Taliban)

And you are concerned about a short ride 2 up with your daughter? Looks like you got it covered. Have fun, hope the weather

is good for you 2, should be a fun experience.

I've decided to go pick up my girl this weekend on the bike instead of driving my Suburban. I calculate the gas savings will be $50 picking her up tomorrow (Friday) and bringing her back on Sunday....yes FIFTY dollars. It's 75 miles one way so 150 miles round trip with a total of 300 miles between Fri and the Sun.

Anyway I have a dilemma.....I don't like riding without using my back rest....it's not so bad when the wife is behind me because I can lean back on her but when it's my 12 yr old girl there's nothing to lean back on....she is SO SKINNY !

So how can I solve this dilemma while still having something behind her to lean back on as well as me as well as something to carry her stuff in that she'll bring with her (clothes etc.)

You're kidding, right? You're talking about a hour and a quarter ride. And how do you mount your bike? I can barely get my leg over the back seat while bending forward at the waist. If I couldn't sweep the rear seat with my leg I'd have to use a ladder to get on and off.

As you can see in little spots that milk crate was once RED.....lmao

Was a crappy paint job by me for sure....the black is coming off in places
I have some black milk crates but they have solid bottoms, where as this one is grated on the bottom so I can put the tie wraps thru it.
The store didn't have any Chrome Paint?
I think its fine. If it works noone will know the difference when there are two riders anyways. Let her roll man!

What you don't realize is Rick looks like this on his bike. He's a giant.

Well,

Made the trip to get my girl just fine with no problems....was a nice day, bike ran perfect.

BUT DAMN..........I need a bigger bike for 2 up riding !

The CX is ABSOLUTLEY PERFECT for one up, I mean AWESOME.......but for me when you have to ride more than a few miles 2 up.....it sucksssssssssssssss !

I love my bike, love the looks, love the nostalgia....but DAMN, if I'm going to do this more often to save gas I need to sell this thing and get something bigger.

I know I've said this before a few times and never sold it cuz I'm so hooked to it and put so much time and money and effort into making it what it is today....but DAMN !

Let me reapeat: For 2 up, highway speed for any distance...it just plain sucks for someone that is 6 foot tall or more like me...there is no comfortable position.....riding solo, it's great !

EDIT: Just thinking to myself: IF I do get up the balls to sell it it will actually be more difficult for me than divorcing my first wife cuz I actually LOVE the bike.

But, without a wife, why do you have to limit yourself to one bike?

That's my problem: I could have two bikes or one wife, but not both....

I've been remarried for 6 years now Wayne....and SHE is the one that wants me to keep the CX and get another one.

Problem is I don't want to spend ANYMORE money on a bike, I've put ENOUGH into this one so I just want to sell it and buy another or trade someone even up. As well I KNOW if I have another bike that is bigger and more comfy the CX would probably just sit and I don't want that.
