Hello there,

I have 1979 Honda CX500C and it's a thing of beauty minus the fact the brake light is always on when I'm riding. Brakes work fine its just the light that's not working. The strange thing is that when I press the foot brake hard the light turns off....any thoughts or ideas? Do you think its some type of mechanical issue or is that something funky going on with the electronics. Any help would be great!!!!!!!!

Well first you realize that it is meant to stay on low at all times. And then when you step on the brake lever or hand brake it is meant to glow bright.

Does it get brighter when you grip the hand brake? The wiring there is pretty simple. I would suggest that you inspect it. Foot brake switches can seize due to rust and other things in the switch.

Ya I know the tail light stays on but it stays bright like I'm using the break. It goes back to normal running light brightness only if I step on the foot brake very hard.

I wouldn't be surprised if the little rod in the switch is getting stuck when pulled and doesn't want to go back right. Follow the wires back from it and unplug it on one side and see what happens when you pull the front brake lever. If it acts normal then it's most likely the foot brake getting stuck. They sell these foot brake switches on ebay for $5 or so.

Thank you very much... It is almost spring break so I'll have a week at home to tinker with it Thanks again.
