i know dump it for something younger and skinnier, but that never flies with the wify. i have a 78cx project should i rebuild that engine to swap later? can i get another 10k miles from my stater?it sounds like these bikes are dead at 30k,i need valve and cluch other than that shes perfect.what to do?

next trip is december 3k milesish,

Who told you that ( my bike with 85k would tend to disagree)




If you are going for a long trip, it wouldn't hurt to change the stator, cam chain, mechanical seal, camshaft oil seal, and do a clutch rebuild with new friction disks and springs. That should get you EASILY another 30-40k out of it.

Keep riding her and rebuild the spare engine.



Other than that an Ignitech and cheap $14 a pair ebay coils will keep you running as long as you want to. And you can even use the ignitech and coils now.
