Hi all I live in Sydney, Australia. I am looking for someone to rewire my 1980 CX500, the PO has done a bit of a hack job and it's hard to say what's been left and what's been added.
Could someone recommend an auto electrician in the Sydney are that they would be confident to take on the project. I saw a site for getting a custom loom made up but if anyone has any further recommendations I am all ears.

If you just want it back to what Honda intended it might be better to look for a good used wiring harness and replace the whole thing. That would result in all of the wire colours matching the drawings (= easier to troubleshoot later) and you could do everything yourself instead of searching for a specialist.

I spent 20years in Sydney..but found a lot of Auto electricians didnt want to tackle even minor jobs unless they had a specific bike interest. Having said that there are bike services that do advertise...

Maybe rather than shop rates you might be looking for someone competent that can do it for an agreed price...more a "hobbyist".... ??

Our team manufactures adapter cables, custom harnesses and repair motorcycle electrical systems of various types.

We offer our services both on location and remotely. So far we have a pretty good record providing remote services. These typically revolve around video calls to diagnose the issues, train the client on how to do the repairs and then confirming that the repair is complete.

Now I’ll admit we usually do this in central Canada but if you’d like some help we can probably come up with a solution.

For future reference....Is there a standard hourly rate/fee for the video consults?-this might be something other members may find useful if geographically distant from local services.....

Though across countries the time difference would be a big factor.....we (Aussies) would be up at 3-7am to work within your usual business hours....

I work with people across the globe, including Australia, so normal business hours are not so normal!

We don’t charge for a 1/2 hour video review/consult. If we can identify the issue(s) and the solution is within the owners range of skills to repair, that’s it. I’ve had the odd person send a gift (beer and chocolate, once each!) but nothing is required nor expected.

If we have to spend more time on the diagnosis or supporting the repair, we charge $45USD/hour plus whatever parts or materials we supply.

This is my retirement gig and our focus is on making headlight and horn upgrade cables, as well as custom harnesses etc. I see the remote service piece as building goodwill over time. Now, if I’m in 6 hours a day of video diagnosis calls I’ll probably change my pricing model but for now, it works.

Process is simple: start a private conversation with me with details regarding year and model as well as the issue(s) being experienced, as well as what you’ve done so far. We’ll schedule a time together and off we go.
