Anyone sitting on a spare ignitech?

Seriously, I'm pissed. My bike's 95% back together, and remember the problem I had with the Ignitech? Yeah, I sent it all the way back to CZ, and Jan said it was fixed.

I still have NO spark, and I have NO connection to the PC still!! I'm rather angry at this point, and I think the simplest way to check this will be to try a different Ignitech box.

I plugged the CDI box back in, and hey - the bike runs on the right side only! The left side of my CDI box is dead, and is why I bought the damn Ignitech in the first place!!

I'm so incredibly frustrated now!!!

I just sent an email off to Jan AGAIN. Dammit, that's going to be ANOTHER MONTH without the bike!

I'm going to go take a video of this BS

I may be using the wrong terminology - the blue and white wires are from the CDI charge windings on the stator.

The signals that the Ignitech is using are from the two 'pulsers' (they are two smaller arcs that would sit outside the flywheel) that bolt up to the sides of the actual stator.

I'm calling them pulsers simply because I've heard that term before - but I'm 99% certain they are in fact pickup coils

I'll be pulling the exhaust back off here in a few, and dropping the engine back out. I'm getting pretty handy at doing so.

Larry, Cobram's already dropped my Ignitech back in the mail, and I will definitely take you up on your offer. I have a couple of spare pulser / pickup coils / stators here, so I'll work on it all today.

Just tested the spare stator assembly I've got - and guess what? The right side pick-up pulser DOESN'T WORK!!

Ugh, I'm going to see if I can disassemble this and make a good stator system out of these.

Engine is re-assembled. Should be back in the bike, and HOPEFULLY fired up tomorrow!

Next time I have an engine apart I'm going to satiate a curiosity I have about using a common ABS sensor to pick up the reference signal off the flywheel. Theoretically it should work.

It looks like you're almost there Doward.
Now that's what I call getting motivated. Lets all hope this fixes your problem!

I think it will. Tested pre and post engine put-together, and both pulsers are now reading within specifications.

I have a feeling that the Ignitech treats each pulser as the timing point for each ignition cycle to each ignition coil.
The only question that comes to mind is that in your video the plug fired with cdi and not ignitech. It's more than I want to think about tonight. Good luck on the start up tomorrow.

Yes, but the left is considered pickup #1 - no pickup #1, no ignitech firing at all.

Whereas I bet the stock CDI acts as 2 separate units internally.
Now I remember that being covered already. Fingers crossed Doward!

As of 5:30pm today I can now confirm good strong spark on BOTH sides of the engine!!

I need to put the exhaust back on, tidy up the wiring a little, and she's ready for a test-fire!

THANK YOU EVERYONE THAT HAS HELPED ME OUT!!

Going to test out the CDI boxes I have, too, since it's highly likely that damn pulser has been my problem all along!

Time for the Happy Dance.

Your Ignitech should be back to you by Tues., someone will have to sign for it though, that's the only way to send insured.

All I gotta say is, WOW, what a great thread! It was better than a friggin Sunday movie!

You guys are effing amazing. My best to you Doward, and man, the kudos to Larry and Reg and Cobram. Simply WOW.

Yep, just finished putting the exhaust back on, and fired her up!! The carbs feel a little gummy, for lack of a better word - I'll need to clean them up and get her out on the open road!

Next on my list is still waiting on the new brake lines to arrive, so in the meantime I'm going to clean up the tank, tidy up that wiring, and finish off everything else I can think of while I wait on the brakes!

If my Ignitech is going to be here Tuesday, then I'll go ahead and get Larry's back to him tomorrow - I can wait 24 hours, as that'll make certain I finish up what I need to do (adjustments and such) prior to my first ride!
Good job Doward. Congratulations on a successful fix. And to think, all that time waiting for the unit to come back could have been logging miles. You hauled butt on it too. At least you had extra parts to work with. Too bad you didn't ask for the extra ignitech earlier.

Hmmm.... What was that Phil? Did you forget to say something?

I think Phil was just flabbergasted at how awesome that black exhaust with the chrome-ringed ends looks

Man, it was SO NICE to finally hear the bike run again, even if it's not running 100% yet! I'm at work right now (har har and on here) so Larry, I'll be dropping your Ignitech in the mail this afternoon. I can not thank you nearly enough, nor Cobram - who knows how much longer I would have waited trying to figure this problem out!

Tonight I'll finish up some wiring - might even go ahead and disassemble the carbs, give them a thorough cleaning again, just to make everything tip top.

Also, 14.3volts @ 1500rpm out of the stator assembly I built
No headlight or running lights on at that time, though!

Doward, I got the ignitech back today. Thank you. Glad it all worked out and you got your bike running again.

And I still owe you $6 - let me handle that right now!!

Thank you, Larry, very much!
You can pay me with a fine ale at a local watering hole the next time I'm down your way or you're up this way.
