I've spent a couple hours this morning trying to record the noise from my engine.

USB mic and also phone have proved very unhelpful.

Going to recheck the torque settings on the head and do the cam chain/valves, waiting for a torque wrench from a friend and some clear skies.

The symptoms are a loud tapping at idle, and operating temperature it goes away, I was mistakenly assuming the noise I was hearing with clutch in only was the same noise, it seems that cold I might have something else rattling around since it doesn't stop when I pull in the clutch.

Fan seemed to be ok when I pulled the rad etc.

"sounds" like the cam chain. How many miles on the engine? There is a way to check w/o dropping the engine but I never figured it out. Which Vancouver? WA or BC?

cam chain noise shouldnt go away on a warm engine..... I'm leaning towards valves. Get a long handled wooden screwdriver, put your ear to the handle and the end to various points on the engine. Poor man's stethescope.
