Hey all, I have been toying around with repainting my GL500 ever since the accident I had in October that added two unsightly dents on my tank. I like the original color, and was thinking of either finding something similar to it, or maybe going red or a dark blue. Well, I have since thought of yellow. Normally I don't like yellow, but I have seen some cruisers in yellow, and they look really nice. In fact, they would probably be safer too since they are so noticeable. Anyhow, I was trying to envision my GL in yellow, and I can't get a decent enough image of it in my head, so I was wondering if anyone here has done it? I know a member here has a cafe racer CX in yellow, but I want my GL to remain fairly stock, just maybe in yellow. Anyhow, any images/ideas/comments?

Thanks all,

Dan

With a yellow bike and matching helmet and wearing one of those blaze orange vests with the yellow X on it, you would probably have one of the safest rigs out there. Not cool in some peoples minds, but logical and practical.

Phil, that yellow GL does look really nice. I see it has pin striping on it similar to all factory GLs, pattern wise. Was that an original factory color? I really like that yellow, and it is definitely stirring me in that direction, though I am still not completely sure yet which color I will paint it. A dark metallic blue, or even the blue Larry (the carb king) painted his GL is nice. Oh well, I guess I'll make my ultimate decision in the Spring when I actually make the decision on what color to paint it.

Thanks for the input guys, even you gopher
I certainly wouldn't call myself a first year college girl who's daddy bought me a small yellow vehicle though, but as you have said, GLsouris, to each his (or her) own. I have seen some nice motorcycles in yellow though, and Phil proved that it will work nicely on a GL.

Saw a yellow GL at Ephrata last summer. Will see if I have the picture at home, and if so will post it tonight.

Edit - could not locate the picture, not sure where it went.

Personally, I like yellow and Phil's bike looks great. I think a yellow bike, besides being a safer vehicle, just sort of sets you off from the crowd. I ask you, if you saw about 50 bikers out on a ride and only 1 had a yellow bike, which one would you notice for sure? Of course, if you're up to something nefarious it's wise to look like everyone else.

While not GLs they are CX500s with the early fairing and a Eagle Screens small windshield without a windlip.

The windlip is on the shield I'm showing without being attached to a bike.

The smoked screen with yellow bike I like. Bikes with chrome and yellow or silver and yellow look good I think.

The Eagle screen goes for $100 AU$ and about $40 shipping again Australian dollars. That is about $12x USD or with the windlip about $14x USD. Threw a red and white one in there for how it looks on a bike...

What is the screen you have mounted on that 78? Eagle Screens doesn't show a screen for a 78, their fitment list starts at the 1980 model year.

Thanks!

BrianB,

They list the '78-84 CX500 in the drawing with the stock cowling/fairing as being compatible with their H-58 windscreen. The European bikes that had the aftermarket screens fitted to the early CX-500s or CX-500 Deluxes had that style.

The cowling that Phil shows is the stock fairing/cowling. Works with that and a couple holes on each side for hardware to attach to the cowl. They have a cutout in the left side of the fairing for the reset on the mileage for the speedo/odometer.
