Was wondering if there is a whole lot that is compatible with a gl650i and a 82 gl500i.......engines are not the same

I went on the Motogrid site to do a couple comparisons and got no matching numbers

eg the rear shock and the rear hub/drive..front shocks/forks,top bridge of the tripple

The reason I am asking is that I have a 83 GL650i and in my annul way I like having a parts bike also, and have possibly found a 82 gl500 for a decent price maybe.

They do share a lot of things but really aren't the same.

Bodyparts are interchangeable

But

Forks are different. Bigger on the 650

Mono shock. Different lengths and possibly size.

The rear drive should work just fine in a switch but they seldom need repair or exchange.

Engines and electrical systems have slight differences and obviously displacement is one.

Two can live almost as cheaply as one. :)

Some that own both have learned to appreciate the differences, they ride differently but you can't place one over another.

Thanks .kind of afraid of that ....I guess if I want a gl650 parts bike I should be patient and wait to find a GL650 parts bike.

Unless I can get this one for a real decent price and keep what I need.....and sell the rest on a certain forum that I know......

Body parts are the most interchangeable parts. Rear axle is larger, so nix the final drive. Monoshock is same size I think, but the bottom end bolt up is different. Also the prolink mechanism is different, as are front forks, front brakes, wheels. All differences are slight, but make the parts "no fit" without modifications.
