Im wondering if different height windshields are still available anywhere for a 1982 Silverwing Interstate ?



Mine has a windshield that is just a bit to short and was wondering if there is a source for a windscreen a few inches taller.



If you measure straight up the middle, from the top edge of the aluminum trim to the tip of the clear windshield, mine measures 19 inches.



What was the height of a "Standard" windshield in this area ? Maybe mine has a slightly short screen compared to stock ?



Who is a good mailorder supplier for new screens ?



Lastly, is the Silverwing windscreen the same as a goldwing or some Vetter type ?

You didn't mention if the 2" range of adjustment has been used. This is done by loosening the mirror and trim screws and sliding the windshield up or down. There are always a couple of windshield replacement vendors on ebay.

The GL500 Interstate windshield is the same as used on the GL1100 GoldWing.



Many places sell replacements in different heights and tints. Dennis Kirk, JC Whitney, etc...

You can also get a piece of Polycarbonate cut aat a plastics shop. (Also a lot cheaper)

The windshield on my GL500I, which I think is stock, is that same 19" when adjusted full up. I'm trying to decide between having the top just an inch or two below eye level or right at eye level as it is now. I suppose if it is below my eyes, the occasional bug will not get deflected by the airstream and hit me in my visor, but I think that is an OK price to pay for the unobstructed visibility and maybe even a little extra breeze when riding in 100 degree desert heat.



Do most guys with full fairings have the top of the windshield above or below seated eye level?

Mine is about two or three inches below eye level. I wear an open face helmet and I have never had any problems with bugs.

Thanks. Obviously, tall people would need a higher windshield to maintain the same level relationship to the eyes, and even suspension servicing and seat firmness could make a difference on any bike. I'm just under 6', and weigh close to 200 lb with full gear.

I am 5'8" and have cut 2" off of my windshield and now I look over it with comfort. I have no problem with bugs and now it is cooler to ride on those hot days. I was used to riding a bike with a small windshield like the Honda Interceptor, so the extra wind makes me fell more at home on my Interstate.

Great! I did not know the windshield was adjustable. I just went out and moved mine to the up position and it now measures as you indicated 19". Mine was in the down position and I did not know it could be moved up so

I will check to be sure I can still look over the top. In case of fog it is a real treat to be able to look over the top.

The prior owner had a wider and taller than normal windscreen on the interstate I had. (seen in my old avatar) I loved it because I could ride year round. Kept the rain off especially since it was tall... took 4 fingers over my helmet before I felt the wind draft. It protected my hands so I just wore insulated work gloves. I was planning on cutting the height down a bit since it would ice up in wet weather when it got to below 38 degrees and I couldn't see over it. I still would have kept it wide.



It was a slipstream.... think the '168 clear' from what I was able to search... see first link.

(notice how it drops down on the outter lower edges,.. this would follow the edge of the hondaline fairing towards the mirror)
