Well my build is buried somewhere in here (if there's archives from the old site). But I figured I'd repost and get some opinions/help as I reach the end.

Here it is when I got it (about 1 1/2 years ago):

And as it sits now:

Here's a list of modifications:

-All fairings, luggage racks, and other plastics removed

-MAC 2-1 exhaust with EMGO shorty muffler

-Frame mods: cut rear, cut passenger foot mount, cut center stand mount, added plates between frame rails

-Custom battery box located where H-box used to be

-CB900F front end swap (w/ 39mm forks, dual rotors, dual piston calipers)

-Carbs rebuilt by Larry

-K&N Pods

-New rear shocks

-New tires

-Powdercoated frame, swingarm, wheels, and other bits

-'71 CB350 tachometer and headlight

-Bar end LED turn signals

-Custom seat using old suzuki tank and original seat pan

-Electric fan conversion

-All electricals moved to under the seat pan

ehhh i might be missing stuff. But that's it so far. I'm excited to get it to a "finished" product within the next few weeks.

stuff left to do:

-assemble calipers

-finish polishing (valve covers, radiator, starter motor, cooling pipes, etc. and maaayyybe the tank)

-upholster seat

-wire up brake and turn signal lights

-replace all fluids

thanks for the positive comments! as far as the radiator goes...just kept going to a finer and finer grit sandpaper (currently at 1000 grit right now)...still has a ways to go. it definitely takes a lot of patience and "elbow grease"

Looking good!

Does that front end bolt up with no mods? And the stock wheel works?

It's actually a complete front end from an '81 CB900F. The neck is a bit longer than the CX500 neck, so you'd need to put 2-3mm spacer before you press in the bottom steering bearing. Other than that, it bolted right in.

That really is very nice work!!! The CX's really make great cafe bikes!! What are your plans for the tank?

For now, the plan is to keep it bare metal. I'm still working on getting the inside all done (de-rust, POR-15, etc.); but once that's done, I'm gonna polish the tank up to 3000 grit and put a clear coat on it (POR-15 makes this product called GlistenPC which I'm hoping will keep it nice and shiny for a while). If all else fails, gonna get it painted, just don't know what color yet.
