So I picked up a set of revers comstars from a fellow member in a trade, didn't notice that the rear was an 18", and my 81, being a non-78, has a 16", can I just put a new tire on it and mount it up? Am I likely to have any issues? Before I noticed it was an 18" I removed the ancient dry rotted tire, which was a royal PITA to get off, even with a car tire removing machine, I know, it's a car machine, not a bike tire remover, but it beats the hell out of fighting with it myself... Anyway, I didn't feel like fighting it back on, and so putting it in place with no tire wouldn't show if it's going to rub, and I'm not some rich guy who can buy a new tire to see if it'll fit or not...
PS, sorry if this topic's been around a bunch, when it comes to searching 78 18" rim on 81 with a 16", none of the words showed up, although I could have used wheel, and searched through every topic with the word wheel in it, and 3 years later, if I dedicated 8 hrs a day, 7 days a week to reading through them, probably would have found my answer, but I don't have that kinda time...
I still would, make it as tall as the bike can handle it, so you can hold your speed in it, but have to down shift to speed up just so the bike is at 4-5k at 70, which would greatly improve mileage
