Howdy all,



I have a 1982 GL 500, and I am curious about converting that to a 650.



I wonder about how to go about that process, such as what all the parts



required would be. I imagine that the cylinders, pistons with rings, &

connecting rods would have to be replaced-- what else?



Is it everything in that center section of the engine (the cylinder section)

that would have to be replaced?

You'd be better off buying a 650 motor.

Both bore and stroke are greater on a 650 than a 500 and while its

not impossible to bore out, sleeve and fit bigger pistons etc

Its quite an undertaking unless you have the facilities, expertise

and money!

I agree with Reg. You will also need the 650 wire harness. And some way to fab the top motor mounts.

I was thinking that I might be able to replace the central section of the engine (change that of the 500 with that of a 650) with all the bits of that new section included, since the engine is divided into the front with the clutch &c., the center with the cylinders (that section would be changed out), and the rear section with the transmission.

I suppose that might not be possible to add in the cylinder section from a 650 to what I've already got with the 500.
