Hello to everyone. I have a puzzle to figure out. Looking for pics, blow-ups, or any thing that will help my husband and I restore an 1982 cx 500 trident police trike. We need to see under the box to see alternator postion and whats missing, plus wiring diagram from seat back. He had a stroke 2 years ago and this has him eager to get back to riding. Sorry for being long winded. Thanks

As far as I know such a thing doesn't exist. The Trident trikes were quite rare.

Assuming it is like a regular cx500, the alternator would be in the back of the engine. On these bikes it isn't an external alternator, but a stator in the engine.

As for the seat back, what is in there? If it is just the tail lights it shouldn't be tough to figure out with a little effort.

BTW Welcome to the best place on earth for CX/GL info.

I just bought a 1982 honda trident trike back in april. Where are you located? I am in Roanoke Virginia. It does have a seperate generator and it is only used to charge the battery (that battery on mine is under the rear of the box) that runs the electric backup motor. And that is the only thing that battery is connected to. Also this generator only charges that battery when the bike is moving down the road. Should be a big gear mounted around the drive shaft that the backup motor engages to make the bike move backwards. There is a belt that goes around the drive shaft to run the generator. Sorry I have gotten long winded. Be best if I can try to figure out how to send you pics but you would be welcome to come and take a look. I plan to take the box off this winter and fix everything and paint. I will be sure to take pics of the process and can send them to you also. You can call me at five four zero three four two one 762. thanks, Kevin

Can you take some pictures of this generator unit. I'm curious to see what and how they did it. Would be a good reference in the future.

Agree
would love to see some pics, may even be a "alternator add-on", have heard of them but never seen one on

Sounds pretty straight forward, the turning driveshaft spins the generator which charges the battery that is used for powering the reverse motor that turns the driveshaft to back the bike up.

Some old engines had a generator that also served as a starter motor,,if it had one of those it would simplify things.
