Thought I'd start a thread for my bike, as have spent countless hours looking at others.

Bear in mind, I'm a complete n00b, have done basic bits with cars over the years, but nothing on bikes.

I previously owned a Honda Rebel 125 and then a ZZR - now wanting something a tad calmer with a more relaxed seating position.

I started with a 1978 CX500 in May 2015.

Which fast became a frame.

I then spent a great deal of time polishing bits, both by hand and with a dremel.
Then either getting bits powder coated or hand painting with Hammerite black (to save money).

Spent some time in the evenings after work polishing the engine block.

Kept going on the bike until I got to about here...

At this point, after several letters/forms/phone calls/emails etc etc with the DVLA, my only option for registering it was on a Q plate and having to pass an IVA.
Just having on the Q plate would reduce the value of the bike and passing the IVA could be interesting.

So decided to grab a doner / new bike. So after a 6 hour drive in a hired van. I had CX500 v2 (now with added V5).

This again.. fast became a frame.

This time, decided if I was going to go through all this again, I would "do it right".

Had a rear loop welded in and had several rusty parts of the frame repaired.

Then had it powder coated and started transferring bits over.

Have since cut down the rear mudguard and (roughly) mounted a headlight.

Murrays carbs then arrived.

Land vehicle Vehicle Motorcycle Motor vehicle Automotive tire

Ordered some dials from a Custom CX500 - as I wasnt keen on the standard dials, but wanted to stay "kinda" standard.

Speedometer Gauge Measuring instrument Vehicle Tachometer

Have tested my rear light unit with a 9v battery.

Attempted to fit my Motad exhaust, failed when I realised it would clash with the under engine battery relocation box.

Land vehicle Motorcycle Vehicle Motor vehicle Fuel tank

Since have ordered new downpipes, CNC flanges, Murrays upswept midpipes and 2 slash-cut black mufflers.

In the mean time, while I wait for bits to arrive from the US. I have been rewiring with Mate-n-lok connectors, black sheathing and heat shrink.

So my build so far as involved:

So far:

Chassis

Gunmetal Grey powdercoated frame
(with rear loop welded in)
Satin black powdercoated Comstars
(with Continental Milestone CM1's)
Gloss black powdercoated swing arm.
Gloss black powdercoated centre stand.
Pillion footrests removed.
Norman Hyde 'M' bars.
Hagon black rear shocks.
All Balls Headrace bearings
All Balls Fork seals.
All Balls Swing arm bearings.
Replaced a lot of nuts/bolts with new Honda parts or polished if possible.
Black bar-end mirrors.
HEL - Steel front brake cables (Gunmetal)
CNC machined headlight mounts (Black)
Hagon rear shocks - Black
Custom made seat.

Electrics

Speedo / clocks from CX500C
Tri-LED Headlight with halo.
Ignitech DC-CDI-P2 (Replacement CDI)
Relocated Shindengen MOSFET FH020AA R/R
Relocated battery box.
(with Skyrich Lithium YT9B4 battery)
Rear LED brake/indicator unit.
CNC machined front indicators.
Rewired loom (and the wiring for the components) with new spashproof Mate-n-lok connectors, braided and heatshrink.

Engine

Polished engine block.
Head gaskets replaced.
Water pump gasket replaced.
Oil filter replaced.
Themostat + Housing O-ring replaced.
Idiruim Spark plugs - NGK 6681
Murrays tuned - 34mm Mikuni carbs
S/S Downpipes/headers
CNC Exhaust flanges
Murrays upswept midpipes
Brass Rod Mod
18mm Fuel petcock (from '79 Honda CB750 SuperSport)

My plan is to get the tank sealed and sprayed.

Get the brakes on it and get it MOTd.

Future plans... I want a CBR600rr front end with gold forks.

Looking good, mate! Look forward to seeing the finished product.
Thanks mate! So am I!

Just waiting on Murrays mids, then can get going on the exhaust.

My wiring harness is a complete state though - going to be time consuming :(

That's a great bit of work - mind if I ask where you got the headlight and tail/indicator lights from?

So tell me, what is it about the CX frame that makes me pop wood? There is just something sexy about that single backbone and the swooping lines at the rear. Kinda like a fine woman, I guess. The CX has and always will have a place in my heart.

All back on and left speedo can painted (poorly).

My seat wont completely go on, due to the mudguard bolts coming up through the same bar.

I could trim them down, but still wouldnt get it completely flush.

So thinking to make 2 holes in the metal seat pan.

Then the back is looking nearly done...

Or you could put the bolts to hold the mud guard down from the top. Low head, button head or....c'sink the holes and use flat heads. And make a plate with two tapped holes to go under the mudguard so you don't have to mess around with nuts and washers.

The only thing I was worried about going this route was that people have already told me that I "will" have rubbing issues with the rear tyre, so with some bolts facing downwards, towards the tyres, seems a scary prospect.

I am using... Number 11 from here: Honda Cx500 1981 (b) England Rear Fender - schematic partsfiche

So I dont need any nuts and washers though.

The carbs are directly from Murray on the forum! Message "murrayf" on here.

As for the hoop, I bought it on eBay and had it welded in by a local guy I know. Look similar then?
