I have a 1979 CX500 Custom bike and the tachometer didn't work when I got it. I bought the bike and the previous owner had the cable disconnected because it was very jumpy and wasn't giving accurate results. I connected it and it was very jumpy and after a week or two it stopped working all together. This weekend my brother who is much more mechanically inclined than I am took a look at it and noticed that the part where the tachometer meets the cable was stripped like a stripped screw. The cable still works.
I found a tachometer for sale but it says its for a 1980/1981 CX500. It looks the same but I was wondering it was the same part and can be used on mine without modifications to the housing.
