Just rattling around ideas in my head, but has wheel builders on the forum ever tried building a 19" Comstar rear wheel? CX hub with a 19" CX or GL1100 rim? Could slap some Kenda K760 on and have a funky dirt bike!

Cheers

You would need 19" Comstar spokes that fit the rear hub. Honda never made such a thing.

83 Cx650e has a 18 rear rim , but you need a swing arm ,a final drive and a few other parts probably that are differant.

Wolf, yeah that's what I was thinking. Drop a rear hub and spokes in the middle of the 19" ring but they are way too short. A lucky fluke that the GL conversion works so well.

Hey Capt, are you willing to part with the 18"? That, seems best route! I just found one on Ebay as well...

Custom had 19 as Front. But don't know if Spokes will fit.
Everything (among the twisted twins) had a19" front, but the front hub is much smaller than the rear.
It seems Honda used some consistent hub diameters between models, so you might find a rim and spokes from another model that would mesh with a CX500 hub. But I think a 19" rear Comstar would be unlikely.

The Kenda K760 does come in 16" size as well.

a 19 inch wheel with a dual sport type tread will most likely encounter problems with the overall diameter as well, I purchased a GL500 that the P.O. had hopes of making a dual sport, with a knobby tire on the 78 CX 18 inch Comstar the tire barely cleared the swingarm pivot.

Not everything. The E models and Turbos came with 18" fronts.

That's odd. I ran an 18" CX500 rear wheel with a knobby on the rear of my GL500 for a couple of years with no clearance issues and I've had an 18" CX500 rear wheel in a GL500 swingarm on my CX650E based winter machine with knobbies since 2006 and the only clearance issue was the year I tried a 4.50 instead of a 4.00, and that only rubbed the inside of the fender when I hit big bumps.
Perhaps your bike's PO was trying to cram in a tire that was too big for the bike.....

Clearance...
Talking about Clearance: The 650C Rearwheel is not possible to build in or out without deflating. The 140 is the biggest Tire of all this Creatures.

I used the inside of a GL rear wheel stock spokes and rim for the disk brake set up. It takes some finesse but it could be done.
